What is Wolf & Kettle?
The “wolf and kettle” is a traditional Jesuit symbol tied to the family of St. Ignatius of Loyola. The image comes from the Loyola family crest: two wolves standing near or over a kettle/cauldron. The story is that the Loyola family was known for such generosity that, after feeding family, guests, soldiers, and the poor, they even had enough left to feed the wolves. Over time, the wolf and kettle became a symbol of generosity, hospitality, service, and care for others in Jesuit schools. At Loyola Sacred Heart, it is part of our Jesuit heritage that connects us to the importance of giving from what we have so that members of the MCS community may be included, formed, and supported.
History of Our Crest
🤍 The Wolf & Kettle is at the center of our crest, symbolizing that generosity is at the heart of our community.
🛡️ The seven red stripes on a field of gold represent the seven members of the Loyola family who gave their lives in service to the King of Spain. The red symbolizes their sacrifice, while the gold represents the King.
✝️ Caritas Christi Urget Nos — “The Love of Christ Compels Us” — reminds us that God is at the center of our education and actions, inspiring us to serve others with faith, compassion, and generosity.
Faith in Action. Service with Purpose.
Faith in Action. Service with Purpose.
At Missoula Catholic Schools, we believe that faith is lived through action. Our students are encouraged each day to recognize Christ in others, serve with compassion, and use their God-given gifts to strengthen our community. These lessons are learned not only in the classroom, but through meaningful acts of service that reflect our Catholic mission.
To bring these values to life, we have transformed our traditional annual fundraiser into something much greater.
